How to tell a quality paint job from an unrefined one?

Follow me while I decode a quality paint job. A great painting job is one completed on time, with quality materials that doesn’t appear rushed. Attention to detail should be evident on the edges of all paint strokes. You should feel confident knowing your painter put their best foot (roller) forward. Here’s some things to look for.

Give your suspenders a snap for the first step in our assessment on how to tell a good paint job from one lacking.  What can be the most obvious to the eye is the corners and joints of each room. For instance, find where the wall meets the ceiling; are the lines clean and sharp, or unsteady and wavy? What about where two colors of paint collide?  Other places to make sure lines are straight would be window frames, door trim, and baseboards. All areas in which the straightest of lines matter.

Hardware

I’m talking door knobs, light fixtures, and faceplates when it comes to hardware. If you have hired MVP or another outstanding painter, then you won’t find any paint on any of these things. Rather, you will see that the time and effort to tape, if not remove these items, has been taken.

It may not be the first thing that you notice but, make it one of the things on your list to check for. A worthwhile painter will make sure that the paint fits snug to the edge of all all hardware

Paint Coverage

I can always recognize a great interior paint job, whether up close or farther away, by the consistency in its paint coverage. On the same note, a paint job that has been rushed and applied improperly can be equally recognizable with some of the following signs:

  • Drips and splatters
  • Roller marks
  • Patches of less coverage
  • Small spots that didn’t get any paint
  • Brush-strokes obvious to the eye near the edges of that walls, corners and windows

Smooth and Consistent walls

Over the course of time all walls are subject to damage from everyday life. However, a quality painter will take the time to properly patch any bumps, holes or scrapes and then prime the area. A budget paint job may ignore these crucial steps and paint over the imperfections completely. Even worse they may leave them visible by only exerting bare-minimum effort to patch them. If you want a smooth, uniform surface, opt for the quality painter.

Being able to discern a good paint job from a bad one is crucial to ensure the satisfaction and longevity of your interior and exterior painting projects. By focusing on surface preparation, paint quality and application, attention to detail, and the durability of the finish, you can distinguish between a job well done and a subpar outcome. Whether you’re hiring professional painters or embarking on a DIY project, understanding these key factors will empower you to make informed decisions. Thereafter, achieving the desired results and being able to enjoy a beautifully transformed living space.
